I Booked a Speedway Commercial!

I'll be honest, acting is not the easiest profession. If a person is interested in the industry to seek fame and fortune then they're in it for all of the wrong reasons. Acting involves a lot of initial rejection, patience, and commitment. But I'm not trying to paint an eerie picture; while it most certainly can be a cut-throat industry and admittedly isn't for everybody, I also find it to be incredibly rewarding. It is my creative outlet and nothing excites me more than to be working. I couldn't ask for a better job! I love the collision of so many talented people working together towards one goal and it's such a beautiful experience.

Today my agent called me and let me know that I was "on hold" for a casting call that I went to for a Speedway commercial. For those of you not in the industry, "on hold" means you've been selected among other individual(s) to make sure you have open availability for the designated shooting schedule.

So pretty much he called me and said in his Australian accent, "DO NOT make plans for those production dates!" Once you confirm, the client will then proceed to pick whomever best fits the role. I was giddy and couldn't help but pray I would get cast. I continued on with my day but couldn't get my mind off of it. I later saw I had a missed call from my agent's office and the voice-mail told me it was "urgent". My breathe hiked and I practically held it as I immediately returned their call. My agent's employee answered the phone with a smile in their voice.

"Hi Keilah, how are you?"

"Hi there. I'm wonderful. How about yourself? I saw you called and and your voice-mail told me it was urgent..." I trailed off waiting for them to explain.

"Yes, you have been cast for the commercial! Congratulations!"

"Me? REALLY? I can't believe it!"

After I ended the call I proceeded to squeal, skip, dance, and of course--I smiled.

I was and I still am in disbelief. I jumped, shouted, and danced around in joy. I really am so humbled that they picked me! I remember looking around the casting room to find so many beautiful faces and talented women. Many of the women were eagerly sharing their experiences and talking about their credits on their resumes while I politely listened and smiled as they revealed their accomplishments.

Needless to say, I am so honored and humbled to have been chosen for this commercial. The funny part is I felt like I did a horrible job and I was certain after my audition that I wasn't going to get the part. I remember leaving feeling so upset with myself for not doing a better job. Maybe we're our worst critics?

I just want to tell you, whoever you are, that you can accomplish anything you want to. Give the people what they want and show them what they cannot see. You can accomplish anything you want to and I know you can do it.

You can view the Speedway commercial nationally and it is currently on TV. Dreams can come true!

Lots of love,
